Frequently Asked Questions
2. In what ways is NewMindsets "standards" compliant?
NewMindsets content and learning design has been certified under the American Society for Training and Development's e-Learning Courseware Certification Standards 1.1 -- General Business Management. Our learning system can be accessed through most learning portals and from certain Learning Management Systems. We have not applied for SCORM and similar technical standards certification because they do not yet allow the interactivity between and within learning objects, and between the learning object and the learner, necessary for the exceptional performance-based learning that our system currently provides. As discussed at length in the FAQ: How important is compliance with e-learning standards? we believe that at this stage of development in the e-learning industry learning standards must drive and set the technology standards, not the reverse. The current benefits relating to potential cost reductions, shareability, content reusability, accessibility, durability and interoperability to be achieved through standardization do not, in our opinion, justify the reduced quality of actual learning that seems to arise in meeting the standards. Our approach is to continue innovating with enhanced learning in mind and to register for technical compliance when the standards have evolved to accommodate a 'second-generation' approach that puts learner needs, rather than administrative needs, in first place. We are constantly monitoring developments in learning and technical standards with this in mind.
