Frequently Asked Questions

5. How does NewMindsets deal with the assessment, tracking and impact of learning?

To create effective methods of learning assessment and evaluation in the area of soft-skill development it is much more important to focus on increased ability to apply the learning in practice (performance learning), rather than on multiple choice or other test scores focusing on content memorization (compliance learning). Hence, NewMindsets has adopted a performance learning approach encouraging learners to document and share what they learned by capturing their personal insights, ideas and impact in practice in their personal online notebooks. The notebook for each learning resource includes performance-oriented advice, and job aids such as personal worksheets that can be customized for specific projects or work problems, provocative questions to promote reflective learning, and practical examples that show how learning can be directly translated into practice. Learners can share their Notebooks with course instructors, coaches, managers, mentors or fellow team members as evidence of their learning in a way that actually creates and shares important information and corporate knowledge. Notebook submissions can provide the basis for formal course or learning credits as part of accredited learning programs or as part of the evidence of work individuals have completed for '360' or other competence improvement programs. The NewMindsets system automatically tracks the learning activities of all learners in a personal activity log. This information is confidential to the learner until he or she chooses to share it with an instructor, coach or mentor for accreditation purposes. We have found that this 'bottom up' style of learning report is very effective and minimizes the "Big Brother" fear that the learner is being constantly watched and monitored. Administrators can produce anonymous group and global reports of learning activity to monitor and overall activity.
